Our Very Special Dogs Need Your Help!

Jazzi (L) & Tom (R) Jazzi (L) and Tom (R) were surrendered to a high kill shelter in South Carolina after their owner died because nobody wanted them! They both tested positive for severe heartworm infections and needed immediate veterinary care. Both were being cared for at a veterinary clinic in SC until they were stable enough to make the trip north to join our foster program. However, Jazzi's condition was critical and she didn't respond to the medication that should have helped her. In a sad turn of events our efforts to spare her from euthanasia seemed to be too little, too late. At the veterinarian's recommendation, the heartbreaking decision to end her suffering was made. We regret there was nothing more that we could do to help her.

Thankfully, Tom is now in stable condition. He seems to be doing well and will hopefully be joining a Safe Hounds foster family soon. He is now up to date on vaccinations and has been neutered. He will require treatment for his heartworm infection once he has settled into his foster home. Tom needs some very special care and will most likely be with us for several months while he recuperates. (photo taken at the shelter)

We anticipate the cost of Tom's veterinary care and heartworm treatment will easily exceed $500. Please consider making a donation to help with these expenses. Your generous gift will immediately go towards Tom's care and also help us to make a difference in the lives of the many other deserving dogs we take in by giving them the veterinary care they desperately need.

Winston - male puppy Winston is a cute male puppy that was abondoned by his former owner who left him in a fenced area of a NJ business one night. He is a friendly and playful pup that LOVES to romp and especially enjoys playing fetch with a tennis ball.

He has been examined by a vet, and is now up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped. However, since his arrival to Safe Hounds, he's had a mysterious skin condition that has caused him to scratch resulting in patches of hair loss on his body. Due to the skin condition, Winston is not currently available for adoption. Thus far, the treatments we've tried have not resulted in any noticeable improvement. Winston will need additional testing to determine the underlying cause of his dermatitis and alopecia. Once we have a better understanding of the cause a specific treatment plan can begin. We hope Winston will be ready to find a forever home very soon.
